Not All Dreams Look Like the Ocean

I’ve never been one to follow the rules just because they’re there.
Not in life, not in work, and definitely not when it comes to dreams.
I’m not here to prove a point or challenge the world, but I’ve always felt more at ease asking why than just doing what everyone else is doing.
Why go with the flow when the flow never felt like mine?
ֿThis mindset worked beautifully in my career, but socially, in everyday life, choosing differently is a little trickier.
Sometimes it brings criticism, sometimes confusion,
But sometimes it sparks something in someone else.
Especially in those who want more, but are afraid to take that first step.
The ones with a dream that’s half-whispered.
The ones gathering courage but still not sure.
And then they see someone doing it, and suddenly, it feels possible.
Since we started Follow the 5un, I’ve heard it over and over.
Messages from people saying our story gave them the nudge they needed.
Families rethinking everything.
Some bought boats. Others bought land.
A few simply asked themselves, “Why not?”
And some of them came back to us - not just to say thank you, but to ask how.
We’ve helped people map their next steps, weigh the leap, face the unknown.
It’s one of the most unexpected and meaningful parts of this journey - not just living differently, but helping others believe they can too.

But here’s something most people don’t talk about:
Choosing differently isn’t always magical.
It’s not always photogenic.
Sometimes it’s lonely.
Sometimes people are quietly cheering you on,and sometimes they’re waiting to see if you’ll fall.
And still, I believe this:If the experience is the goal, then trying is already succeeding.
Dreams aren’t one-size-fits-all,and not having to look back one day and ask “What if?” - that’s fulfillment in itself.
So now it’s happening again.
Three years after we left our “normal” life behind to live on a sailboat with our kids, we’re transitioning again.
This time, from sea to shore.
From constant motion to something a little more grounded.
A new country, a new language, a new rhythm.
It’s not as dreamy as turquoise water and open skies.
It might not look like a dream life on Instagram, but for us, it’s just as bold, just as intentional.
Because at the heart of it, Follow the 5un was never just about the ocean.
It was about listening inward.
Not to what’s expected, but to what’s real for us.
It’s about designing your life in a way that feels aligned, even when that means starting again.

So here we are.
Still following our dreams.
Still choosing differently.
Still walking the path that feels right, even when the scenery changes.
If you’re reading this and something inside you is stirring, maybe it’s your time too...?
