We are the Malishev family - dreamers, adventurers, and sailors at heart who've turned the world into their playground.

Starting from the Mediterranean, our sails have kissed the horizons of 25 countries, weaving through the Caribbean and the Bahamas all the way to the US East Coast and back to the Bahamas.

Along this voyage, we've discovered beautiful beaches and diverse cultures, and we found new depths in our family bond.

This adventure is more than a voyage – it’s proof of the magic that happens when you chase your dreams, both the ones you’ve cherished for years and the unexpected ones you discover along the way.

Goodbyes never get easier... After two unforgettable weeks with Sergey’s parents on board, it was time for them to head home. Just like that, it was back to just us, our little sailing crew, setting off for Block Island. ⛵

We had heard so much about Block Island from everyone we met on the way north. Every time we asked about must-visit spots, this place was at the top of the list. Reaching it felt like a big milestone for us, and as we sailed in, we couldn’t wait to see what the hype was all about.

The boys pulled out all their LEGO Technic today and started counting how many cars they’ve built over the years…
I don’t know the final number - but let’s just say it was A LOT.

And here’s the wild part: we have over 20 kilos of LEGO on board.
Yes, 20kg. On a sailboat.

Boat life usually means downsizing - keeping only what really matters.

We’re always on the lookout for new skateparks, and this time, we walked 20 minutes just to check out Greenport’s! The kids had an absolute blast tackling the ramps and trying new tricks, while I had to resist the urge to do the classic “hhhaaaaa” call every time they landed something.

What really made me proud? Watching them calculate their risks, push their limits little by little, and then stop exactly when they reached a height that felt too much. No reckless moves—just confidence building, one jump at a time.

And honestly? I was proud of myself, too. For being there, supervising, and not letting them explore beyond reason.
Parenting win? I think so. 😆

We went to our first yacht show thinking we’d see boats. What we saw was a fantasy.
I get it now. Why so many people think boats are all about crisp white polo shirts, champagne on deck, and lounging on a pristine sofa that never gets wet. The glossy brochures promise a dream – a life of effortless sailing, sleek designs, and all the comforts of a luxury condo on water.

But let me tell you something. Boat life isn’t that. At all.
Boating is dirty. Sailing is wet. The sea is unpredictable. And that cute white outfit? You’ll wear it exactly once before it’s permanently stained with salt, sweat, or engine grease.

At the show, you’ll be dazzled by features designed to impress, but after living on a boat for a while, you learn that impressive isn’t necessarily functional.
And you’ll start asking questions no yacht designer – the ones who design without actually testing things in real life – will ever answer:

❓Is this lounge space on the front of the catamaran practical when 20 knots of wind blow through every afternoon?
❓Does this bathroom window actually open straight into the cockpit – the busiest area on the boat?!
❓Why is the master bed positioned at the front, the bumpiest place on the entire boat?
❓Is this beautiful lounge area next to the helm will flood the cockpit every time it rains?
❓Ever tried sitting on leather in the heat and peeling yourself off of it?

Boat shows sell you a dream. But that doesn’t mean your dream is impossible.
It's not about what you can’t do. It’s about "how can we?"

Our trusty fog horn did all the talking, sending out warning blasts into the mist… while we waited for ghostly shadows of other boats to appear. 👀

The Story Behind Follow the 5un..

We didn’t set sail to inspire anyone. We did it for us.
To follow our dream. To live life on our terms. To wake up every morning with the horizon stretching wide open, knowing we had chosen this path.
But from the very beginning, I knew I was going to share it all. I just didn’t know exactly why.

We started sharing the moment we got the boat, over three years ago, and here we are, still sharing, even as we prepare to leave the boat and step into another journey.

At first, I shared because it felt natural. But over time, it became more than that.
We realized that what felt so right for us - leaving land, chasing adventure, following our dream - felt impossible to so many others.
And that’s not true.

So we keep sharing. Not just the dreamy sunsets and island beaches, but the real, unfiltered moments too. The breakdowns, the uncertainty, the decisions we make along the way.

Because we are not special. We only made different choices.
And if there’s one thing I want you to take from our journey, it’s this: you can too.
You don’t need to be rich. You don’t need to wait for the “perfect” moment. If you already have that feeling inside you, the only thing left is to decide.

When I was searching for the right name, I wanted something that captured it all. And then, one day, I heard Follow the Sun by Xavier Rudd:
"Follow, follow the sun,
And which way the wind blows,
When this day is done..."

And it hit me.
This is what we were doing. Not just sailing, but following whatever pulled us forward. And more than that - bringing you along, hoping you’ll find your own sun too.

Because we all have one.
For some, it’s setting sail. For others, it’s RV-ing, building something, creating, exploring, staying put, or starting fresh.
Whatever it is, it’s yours.
And you owe it to yourself to follow it.

That’s what Follow the 5un means to me.
Five of us, chasing our dream. Five of us, trusting the wind. Five of us proving every day that this life is ours to create.
And if we can do it, so can you.

I absolutely LOVED this place! From historic wooden ships that once hunted whales to charming 19th-century homes showing what life was really like back then, every corner was a step back in time. We learned how sailors navigated by the stars in the planetarium, played old-fashioned games, and even got hands-on building wooden ships with the kids.

This museum made history come alive in the most spectacular way!

And the best part? Thanks to staying in the marina, we got our own Night at the Museum experience – exploring after hours when everything was quiet and magical.

First Night on Land
We left the boat on the dock, packed five bags, and walked away.
First night on land
And I don’t feel like talking. To anyone.
First night on land.
I ran the dishwasher, took a looong shower, and flushed toilet paper.
First night on land.
And I have no energy for anything.

I feel strange.
Maybe empty, maybe exhausted.
Maybe I’m in shock that this day has actually arrived.
Maybe I was just ready for this.
Maybe the new luxuries of endless water and electricity without worry, affect me more than I dared to admit.

For three years we lived on the water.
At a different pace, not necessarily slower, but different.
And now we’re back, and we have to adjust.
And the sound of cars in the street is so loud.

For the first time in our lives, we’re truly nomads.
The boat is on the dock and we’re not allowed to sleep on it.
Our temporary place is cute, but it’s not home.
And until we settle somewhere new, we don’t really have a home.

In a few months, we’ll drop anchor again, this time on land.
Until then, with just a few bags, a loose plan, and a lot of uncertainty,
we’ll take it slow, find our new rhythm, and figure out what we’re taking with us from the sea and what we’re leaving behind.

And I know that when I wake up, I won’t see the ocean outside my window.
And my heart broke a little.

The Corsica Storm - Derecho in the Med. Follow the 5un Ep. 07

On August 18, 2022, we were anchored in Porto, Corsica. We had no idea a Derecho was coming toward us. A Derecho is a storm, similar to a hurricane or a tornado, only in a straight line. No swirling. It ran from Majorca, Manorca, through Corsica to mainland Europe: Italy, Austria, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic, causing great damage and 12 deaths. Some weather forecasts anticipated the storm in a way, but most of them completely missed it, making it invisible if you didn't check the right model. In Corsica alone, the winds increased to 225 km/h (140 mph), 5 people died, and more than 125 water rescues were required. Luckily, we were not one of them. This is our story of the Corsica Storm. .
